Those infamous clutch tabs

Readers of the VROC postings know that the tabs on the back of the clutch basket are suspected of causing the plastic oil gear to fracture.  This happens when the tabs are bent fairly far outward in the factory, and the basket develops a tiny wobble with normal wear.

Here are pictures of the tabs to be gently hammered down (top image) and the sharp edges then removed with a grinder like the one shown.  Hey, what a nice company!  Check the label on the grinder -- they'll sell you those screwy clutch tabs, but then they'll also sell you a tool to fix it with !

Second image:  Running a straight edge across the clutch basket after bending and grinding the tabs.  They must not touch the straight edge anywhere (mine did, before treatment).

That infamous oil gear

The plastic version has now been replaced with the newer, steel model.  Top picture shows the gear from inside the split crankcase.  You're looking at the shaft and snap ring.  In the cutout of the crankcase you see a bit of the oil gear itself.

The bottom picture shows the right-hand side of the crankcase, with the clutch removed.  The wheel near bottom left, with 8 holes in it, is the oil gear.  Judge's model ("JOG") allows for installation from this side without actually splitting the crankcase and taking all its guts out first.
