| #1: Removing the spark
plug well. Here's the improvised tool I made.
You need
- one 1/2" x 1/4" NPT cast iron bushing
(Lowe's, Plumbing section, $2)
- one 12 mm bolt, 1.75 thread pitch
(Lowe's, $1) about 40 mm long
- two 12 mm nuts
- one 12 mm 1.75 thread-cutting tap (can
probably do without).
Tap the inner thread in the bushing.
1/2" NPT is extremely close to 12 mm. The bolt might even go through
without recutting the thread. Put one nut on the bolt, screw the
bolt in, put second nut on other side . Tighten
the bejeezus out of it. Then use this tool with a wrench to turn the
spark plug wells out of the cylinder heads.
CORRECTION to picture!!
The iron bushing is 1/2" x 1/4" NPT, not the size shown in the photo.
From Lowe's plumbing section, Mueller Industries item #1481 model #71404.
Its hex fits exactly into the spark plug well.
